I don’t typically manage via the secondary IP but I do vaguely remember getting an error on the console about commands not being replicated if they are issued on a standby group/device. Any configuration you do on this management session should replicate to the other FW as long as your failover is setup properly and one device hasn’t dropped out. You’ll want to login to whatever the main IP of your management context is, typically the admin context, that should give you visibility of your system, admin, “one” and “two” contexts as well as your firepower module if you have it installed. So based on what you said above it doesn’t seem like you’re using the ASDM wrong.
